Training:
Big Apple Baseball Umpires
2010 Rookie Class:
Basic Umpiring training for new candidates begin Wednsday January 13th, 2010 at Mineola High School. Classes run from 7 PM to 10 PM every Wednesday for 12 weeks. Fee for the class is $325 which includes a set of MLB rules plus a Big Apple Hat.
Each candidate will be trained on the rules of the game plus rules interpritation. Extensive gym and "on field" work consisting of both plate and base mechanics which will focus on both timing and positioning. We will teach you the “2 man mechanics” system. Our professionally trained staff includes graduates from the Wendelstat Umpiring School in Florida plus current College Officials.
We believe that the game of Baseball is much more that just about “Balls and Strikes” and “Safes and Outs”. We teach “Umpiring Philosophy 101". This teaches how to move the game along, how to handle coaches, players and fans before, during and after the game and many other techniques to improve your game.
